Week 6 light research

Light in photography records the pattern of light, colour and shade lighting can be very important when taking images.

In the left hand side image you can see that they have used direct light from the sun the shadows on the subjects face appear more harsh her face looks over exposed but I like how the sun has lit her hair making it look more golden. In the left hand side image you can see that they have used diffused light where the shadows on the subjects face have softened making her look more natural.

Larry Sultan was an American photographer from San Fernando Valley. When he began his career in the 1970s he was a conceptual photographer, conceptual photography is a stye of photography that illustrates an idea. Larry Sultans work blends documentary and staged photography in order to create photographs of psychological and physical landscape of suburban family life. Larry Sultan did a series of images that was called pictures from home where he used his mother and father as his primary subjects.

In this image you can see that ambient lighting was used coming from a window or door on the right hand side of the subjects. You can see the soft shadow of the subject standing up on the wall also how the lighting lights up the subjects hair sitting down it appears to look more brighter.

Here you can see this image looks like it has been taken in the morning with the ambient lighting shining from the left side maybe a window in the kitchen or a door the lighting has fallen onto the subject sitting down with the side of his faced appearing more while shadows darken parts of his clothing. Also the subject standing up has ambient lighting on them with her face darkened by shadows and the bottom half of her clothing lit up by the lighting. The table with everything on it has shadows on it and the ambient light brightens up everything on the table.

Hellen Van Meene is a Dutch photographer, Van Meene is known for her portraits taken of young girls taken in her hometown she chooses her subjects by finding girls who may have imperfect faces or flawed bodies she also try to capture some details of older homes in the area using it as a background, during Hellen Van Meenes career she has turned to still life, portraits of animals and fashion photography.

In this image you can see that ambient lighting has been used the lighting is coming from the left side of the image maybe from a  window or door here you can see the shadows behind the subject and also how the shadows fall onto the subjects face used by the ambient lighting in this image. The lighting also brings detail into the subjects dress.

In this image you can see that the lighting is coming from the right side of the image one side of the subjects face has lighting on it while the other side is darkened by the shadows, the light also brightens up the subjects hair.
