Week 3: Cropping and Composition research

Diane Arbus was an American photographer, Arbus is known for her photographs of marginalised people, dwarfs, giants, transgenders and many more.

Her unusual black and white images of local people she saw while staying in New York gave a unique portrayal of the city. Many of her subjects she photographed looked sad, conflicted or physically abnormal but they did not hide their flaws and would openly stare into the camera.

I like this image that Diane Arbus has taken of this transgender model the way the subject stairs straight into the camera shows there is a strong connection between the photographer and the subject also the way the subject is positioned in the middle of the frame makes them blend into the background I like that the photographer has chosen black and white for this image. Here you can see shadows on the back wall from the subjects head, the light looks like its coming from a straight on point of view. I also enjoy the way the subjects hand has been positioned.

This image is really interesting I like where she has positioned the tall subject in a room with low the way he looks down at the other two subjects makes it an interesting and unique photograph.

Imogen Cunningham was an American photographer famously known for her portraits and plant life images. Cunninghams earliest prints were made in the tradition of pictorialism a style of photography that imitated academic painting from the turn of the century.

In the early 1920s Imogen Cunningham changed her style of photography and started creating close-up, sharply detailed images of plant life and other natural forms.

The composition of this image is nice I like how he looks like he's on a lean I also like that he's not looking directly at the camera but is more focused on something else. You can also see that a low aperture was used allowing for a shallow depth of field making the subject appear more sharp while the background is soft.

I love this photo I think the composition is great because the subject is in frame and they also reflect of the door in this image. The subject is staring straight into the camera showing a connection between the photographer and the subject also I like how her arm looks like she's ready to open the door but has been photographed instead making it look like she wasn't ready but capturing the image perfectly.

Cropping and Composition research

Composition is placing relative objects and elements in order to compose work of art composing an image ideally means arranging elements in a way that suits the core idea of your work. Composition is a way of guiding the viewers eye to the important elements in your work, good composition can make a master piece while bad composition can ruin an image.

In this image you can see that is it well composed with the subject
on the rule of thirds horizontal line. This is an image where the subject has been composed well.

In this image you can see the bad composition with the backside of the subject out of frame the picture doesn't look to good as there is nothing that is composed well in this photograph.
