Week 3: Richard Mosses the enclave

What genre does Richard Mosse's "the enclave" fit into? Fine art War and documentary photography

what is the history that relates to this project? The war in east congo africa that is hidden unseen conflict.

Is there anything in his own history that influences his work? Mosses grew up in Ireland and was no stranger to war although he is not entirely comfortable with it he wanted to portray the conflict in a beautiful way.

Why did he choose to use the kodak infared film for this project? He used the 16mm colour infared film because thats what was used in the military wars to identify the enemy in the landscape.
How does the use of this film fit into the documentary genre?

How many times has he been to the eastern congo for this project? He went back many times maybe to see if he could capture different things every time he went back.

Why do you think he has been back so many times? To be able to capture things that he didnt the last time he was there

What justification does he have for creating such beautiful images to represent such horrific events?
Why would he be criticized for this? How does this differ from other war photographs you have seen?
